COMMUNITY HEALTH

The nearest health center is approximately 10 miles from Muguna, which is a very long distance to walk. Not surprisingly, the village of Muguna identified community health and specifically a standalone health clinic, staffed with clinicians as a priority need during the 2014 community forum.

As fundraising continues for a health clinic, FOY and the village committee partner every two years to host medical camps in Muguna Village. The medical camps include health screenings, dental care, eye exams for up to 200 individuals over a 2-day period.

Access to health is the biggest barrier to quality healthcare in rural areas. In Muguna, the nearest health clinic is located over 10 miles away and available to patients only three days a week. While 10 miles away may sound close, it is entirely a different experience when you have to travel by foot, much less when you are ill.
