About the Annual Trip

Join us on the Annual Humanitarian Trip To Yimbo

Every year, Friends of Yimbo coordinates a trip for a group of volunteers to the village of Yimbo in western Kenya. You get the unique experience to stay in the village for up to 5 days.

Activities include:

  • Fire-side chats while listening to live ohangla luo music
  • Visit to homesteads
  • Painting of classrooms
  • Student desk repair work
  • Repair work for homes that house orphaned children
  • Visit to Lake Victoria fishing beach with a short hike on Got Usenge
  • Tree planting
  • Training and instructional exchange with teachers and classroom visits
  • Construction of water kiosks
  • Learning the Luo culture and history of the clan at grandpa Josiah’s homestead
  • Community health workshops
  • Work with the women on micro-enterprise projects
  • Trip ends with a safari in Kenya’s largest park – Masai Mara National Park
  • Returning volunteers who have been to Masai Mara get to explore other parts of Kenya such as Sweet Waters Camp, Lake Bogoria Springs, Mount Kenya and many more

When:

The trip occurs in the month of June and July for a total of 14 days

Approximate Cost:

Airfare (approx. $2,000); Hotels, Meals, Safari, Transportation and Misc. (approx. $2,100); Humanitarian Donation ($1,500). The traveler gets a full year to raise the humanitarian donation fee which goes toward the Yimbo projects.
